Rice 2
25% from this sale will benefit Adventure 4 Change, a hub of neighbours engaging upstream to prevail against the odds of displacement, poverty and underemployment.
Sara was born to a 14-year-old mother. She began life in a refugee camp and shouldered many responsibilities as her seven brothers and sisters came along. The family became acquainted with trauma and dislocation, carrying their South Sudanese heritage from Ethiopia to Canada without their father.
Adventure 4 Change has walked with them ever since. Staffers are humbled to participate in leadership with Sara, now a student at Sheridan College in social services, after the example of her strong mother.
“Rice”, a food grown in South Sudan and loved 'round the world, is dedicated to Sara and her mom.
"Rice 2" is on exhibition at Seven Shores Community Cafe in Waterloo, partially co-owned by my dear, longtime friends, Steve and Deb Tulloch. They helped form my idea of what it means to love.
We're gonna throw a party! Stop by at the cafe from September 18 to October 26 to wander the WorldRooted gallery and enjoy a delicious treat. Then, make sure to pop by on Saturday, October 26 from 6:00-9:00pm for our open house! The counter will be open, there'll be live music, and WorldRooted swag will be available to purchase. We're all excited to say hi!
